REV. LEVI WELLS HART, New Britain, Conn., and Brooklyn, N. Y., eldest son of Chester Hart, of New Britain, and his second wife, Elvey (Wells), daughter of Levi, born June 7th, 1825, in New Britain. He graduated at Yale College in 1846, and studied theology at Union Seminary, New York. He taught at the academy in Wallingford, Conn., in 1846—9. In 1852 he was licensed to preach by the South Presbytery of New York. He was one year a missionary to the Germans of the city, having a good knowledge of their language, as well as several others, when he became rector of the College Grammar School in Brooklyn, N. Y., established in 1849, where he remained until September, 1874, except four months spent with the State Normal School, located in New Britain, Conn., in the winter of 1855—6. His pupils at Brooklyn have numbered about 1,000, and were from four or five nationalities. He had an interesting Bible class in Mr. Beecher’s church some sixteen years. He has preached as a supply and given lectures, and written on various subjects, both literary and religious, for periodicals, especially on education. He married December 27th, 1854, Georgiana, daughter of William B. North, of New Britain, and his wife, Sarah (Burger), born June 4th, 1825, in New Britain.

JOHN HENRY HART, New Britain, second son of Chester Hart, of the same town, and his second wife, Elvey, daughter of Levi Wells, of New Britain, and his wife, Hannah, born April 13th, 1828, in New Britain; baptized there, June, 1828; married January 4th, 1853, Jane, daughter of Deacon Josiah Griswold, of West Hartford. He was a farmer, and lived with his father on the Shuttle Meadow road, in Hart Quarter, in a good house and on a fine farm. This was sold, and they bought on Arch Street, in the center of the city. His wife died previous to this removal, April 7th, 1864, which induced in him a melan-
