choly state of mind, and, in spite of all his efforts, was led to suicide by drowning in the factory pond, August 20th, 1869, aged 41 years, 4 months, and 7 days. He had a fine cultivated mind, was eminently pious, and gentlemanly in his deportment.

NEWTON FRANCIS HART, New Britain, Conn., eldest son of Aaron Hart, of the same place, and his wife, Abigail (Andrews), daughter of Dr. John, born January 2d, 1829, in New Britain; married May 4th, 1852, Nancy Phinney, of Plainville, Conn., daughter of Isaac, and his wife, Dolly (Phelps), widow of Sherman Carter, born November 13th, 1828, in Plainville, Conn. He was bred a merchant, and served his clerkship with Adna Whiting, of Plainville, Conn. In 1863 he was a druggist in Meriden, Conn., but in 1874 was a traveling agent for a hardware firm in Philadelphia, and resided at Galesburg, Ill.

           Ella, born December 9th, 1856; died January 29th, 1857, aged 1 year and 1 month.

JANE ABIGAIL HART, New Britain, Conn., youngest child of Aaron Hart, of the same town, and his wife, Abigail (Andrews), daughter of Dr. John, born June 2d, 1837, in New Britain, where she graduated at the State Normal School, and became a model teacher; married December 25th, 1860, John G. Lewis, of Hampton, Conn., and a teacher in New Haven, Conn., where they reside. He is at the head of the Webster School there. They had—1, Caell Andrews, born January 2d, 1862; 2, Robert Hart, born December 1st, 1864; 3, Mary Mumford, born December 4th, 1866; 4, John Newton, born January 11th, 1869, died July 12th, 1870; 5, Sarah Knowles, born July 5th, 1870, died June 10th, 1871; 6, Harry Blakeman, born August 17th, 1872.
