BRANCH OF JOHN. 107

widow of Dr. Bull—her maiden name was Lydia Williams. His father died when he was nine years old, Lucius having been born June 14th, 1803, and baptized July 31st, 1803, at Rocky Hill, by Calvin Chapin, D. D., then pastor of that church. At the father's decease, or soon after, Dea. Oliver Hale was made his guardian, and about the first of June, 1819, he was bound an apprentice to T. D. & S. Boardman, of Hartford, to learn the "pewterers' trade." After he became of mature age he was sent to their branch house, in New York, and subsequently he was admitted a partner, and eventually succeeded to the whole business, importing metals, and manufacturing britannia, and other wares, until he became wealthy. He made himself very useful. He united in 1826 with Dr. Spring's church. He married at Dr. Spring's church, and before him, Hannah Robinson, of New Brunswick, N. J., date not made known by the family. He was greatly interested in Sunday Schools, had a great love of music, and was very fond of leading the children in their songs at public gatherings and anniversaries. He was an elder in a Presbyterian church some thirty-five years, and a merchant in the city of New York over forty years, and thus became wealthy. He was noted for piety and beneficence. He died at his residence on 14th street, N. Y., Feb. 11th, 1871, Æ. 67. She died Aug. 2d, 1871.
