JAMES PORTER HART, New Haven, Conn., second son of Dr. John Ariadna Hart, of Natchez, Miss., and his wife, Joanna (Porter), born July 27th, 1817, at Farmington, Conn. He graduated at Yale College in 1840, and studied theology at New Haven, where he was residing in 1872, and proposes to represent languages by letters. SELAH HART, New Britain, Conn., second son of Deacon Elijah Hart, of the same place, and his wife, Anna, daughter of Hezekiah Andrews, born November 6th, 1784, at New Britain. He was a cooper by trade, but followed farming. He married October 5th, 1805, Jemima, daughter of David Webster, Esq., of Berlin, Conn., and his wife, Anna (Kelsey), born April 5th, 1783. They settled in Hart Quarter, a locality of New Britain, only a few rods from the site of his great-grandfather, the first Deacon Elijah. They became members of the First Church, August 5th, 1821. He had the military rank of major. He kept a hotel some years, and had one in Saratoga, N. Y. He was an effective farmer. He died of dropsy, September 7th, 1851, aged 68. His widow died July 6th, 1872, aged 89 years, 3 months, and 1 day. She was distinguished for her tall, queenly form, and ladylike appearance and manners. THEIR CHILDREN, BEING THE EIGHTH GENERATION.
