10th, 1821, in New Britain, Conn.; married, October, 1835, Cary B. Moon, of Saratoga, N. Y., where they kept a popular hotel, and where she died October 2d, 1869, aged 47 years, 11 months, and 22 days. Their children were Henry S. aud Charles H. 2726. New Britain, Conn.
LUCINDA ANDREWS HART, New Britain, Conn., second daughter of Dr. Samuel Hart, of the same place, and his wife, Orpha, daughter of James North, Esq., born August 30th, 1820; united with the Congregational Church, December, 1835; married April 27th, 1842, William H. Smith, son of William, born October 22d, 1800, in New Britain, She was his second wife. He was a manufacturer, and was an active business man. He united with the Congregational Church in 1829, and was a deacon of the South Church. He was a man of integrity, very kindly disposed, and was much in public employment. He had just finished a beautiful residence on Main Street, in the south part of the city; when he was suddenly taken ill, and died August 20th, 1873, aged 72 years, 9 months, 27 days. They had—1, Willie Hart, born June 11th, 1846, died September 16th, 1847; 2, .Annie Louisa, born October 19th, 1849, married November 5th, 1874, before Rev. Henry L. Griffin, and Rev. John H. Denison assisting, at the residence of the bride’s mother, Frederick H. Churchill, Esq., a young lawyer of much promise, born March 2 7th, 1847, in New Britain, and graduated at Cambridge, Mass., in 1873. DOCTOR SAMUEL WALDO HART, New Britain, Conn., second son of Dr. Samuel Hart, of the same town, and his wife, Orpha, daughter of James North, Esq., and his first wife, Rhoda (Judd), born May 22d, 1825; married October 22d, 1851, Cordelia M. Smith, daughter of William H. Smith, and his first wife, Marsha (North), born June 7th, 1828, in New Britain. He is a successful practicing physician in New Britain. He has traveled in Europe, and has been to California. He resided in the old house of his father, on Main Street, opposite the Central Park. He was mayor of the city in 1873, 1874, and 1875. His wife died June 16th, 1857, aged 29 years, when he second married November 10th, 1864, in St. Mark’s Church, Margaret C. Smyth, daughter of William B., and his wife, Annie (Goldsborough), born October 18th, 1846, in Easton, Md. CHILDREN BY HIS FIRST WIFE, BEING THE NINTH GENERATION.
2934. Mary Louise, born October 8th, 1852. [ Gerald Waldo Hart married, October 5, 1887, Lucie Janes Van Doren, daughter of Robert I. Janes. He attended the Episcopal Academy in Cheshire, Conn., and Sheffield Scientific School, Yale University, New Haven, Conn. He graduated from Yale in 1878 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Theoretical Mechanics. He was a member of the Yale crew in 1876 and manned the bow oar there in 1877. In 1880 Gerald W. Hart was the first employee of the American Electric Co., of New Britain, Conn. This company later became the Thomson-Houston Electric Co., which after the addition of the Edison Electric Co. and one other company, became the General Electric Co. In 1887 he became the superintendant of the Edison Electric Light and Power Co. and then general manager of the Kansas City Electric Light Co. of Kansas City, Mo. He organized the Hart and Hegeman Co. of Kansas City in 1890 with George S. Hegeman. He returned to Hartford, Conn. by 1898 and in that year formed the Hart Mfg. Co. of Hartfrd, Conn. which manufactured electric light supplies, using the diamond "H" trademark. He also invented electric switches. He was living in Hartford in 1928.
