DOCTOR JOHN HART, Kensington, Conn., fourth son of Deacon Ebenezer Hart, of the same place, and his wife, Elizabeth (Lawrence), born March 11th, 1753, at Kensington, Conn, He graduated at Yale College in 1776, and soon after entered the army of the revolution as surgeon. After his return he settled at Farmington, where he practiced chiefly in surgery until about 1798, when his health being impaired, he resolved upon a sea voyage, and entered the naval service of the United States. He married November 9th, 1786, Hannah, daughter of Gideon Williams, of Kensington, Conn., and his first wife, Patience (Graham), born October 15th, 1766, at Kensington, Conn. For some years after his death she was a female physician, and practiced obstetrics, It is said that she would ride any time of night to visit his patients. She second married J. Stoddard Wightman, of Southington, Conn. She died at Blendon, Franklin County, Ohio. Dr. Hart was an ensign at the surrender of Cornwallis. In company with General Lyman and others he attempted to settle on the Mississippi, near Natchez, but was compelled to swim the Father of Waters, and flee through the forests to Florida. He then engaged as surgeon on the armed schooner Retaliation. He died at sea in latitude 39°, and west longitude 73° 33’, October 3d, 1798, aged 45 years.

THOMAS HART, Kensington, Conn., fifth son of Deacon Ebenezer Hart, of the same place, and his wife, Elizabeth (Lawrence), born December 6th, 1754, at Kensington, Conn. He was never married. He gave his farm in Kensington to his niece, Lydia Hart, April 27th, 1834, who married Theron, son of Benjamin Hart, of New Britain, Conn. After the Middletown Turnpike was built, by order of the legislature of the state, Thomas Hart lived on the corner opposite the Second Church, near an apple tree in Deacon Thomas Hart’s lot. Thomas Hart died at Kensington, September 26th, 1832, aged 77 years, 9 months, 20 days. Deacon Thomas Hart was grandfather of the above.
