11th, 1772. He resided in the west part of Kensington, where his son Samuel now (1874) resides. He was much employed in public business, a man of stern independence of character, a prominent member of the democratic party, was a delegate from Berlin to form the state constitution, was a member of the legislature in both branches, and in his religious belief a Universalist. He was a proud spirited man, an earnest and effective speaker in public, and of very ardent temperament.* He died March 27th, 1835, aged 73 years. His widow, Mrs. Mary Hart, died March 27th, 1850, aged 78 years.

CHARLOTTE HART, second daughter of Captain Samuel Hart, of Kensington, and his first wife, Rebecca, daughter of Charles Norton, born October 17th, 1762, at Kensington. She married December 2d, 1784, Orrin Lee, of Worthington and Granby. He was a blacksmith by trade and occupation. She became partially insane. They had children, viz: Norman, Nancy, Hart, and George.

ASAHEL HART, Worthington, second son of Captain Samuel Hart, of Kensington, and his first wife, Rebecca, daughter of Charles Norton, born May 6th, 1764, at Kensington; married September 23d, 1790, Abigail Cowles, daughter of John, and his wife, Abigail Cole, born January 10th, 1769. Mr. Hart was a tailor by trade and occupation, and lived on the east side of Worthington Street, just north of the Galpin store. She was admitted to the Berlin Church before 1795. He died September 9th, 1821, aged 57 years. His widow, Mrs. Abigail Hart, died September 9th, 1845, in her 77th year.


* The Will of Hon. Captain Samuel Hart, of Kensington, Conn., bears date, February 27th, 1824, in which he gave his wife one-third of his personal estate as her own, and the use of one-third of his real estate during her natural life. He gave his son, Cyrus W. Hart, $200, besides what I have already given him; and gave his son Samuel all the rest of his estate, and appointed him sole executor of his Will.
